New Town Office Hours, Four Day Work Week

New Town Office Hours, Four Day Work Week

On Monday, October 17, 2022, the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to permanently transition Town Offices to the current four-day workweek operating schedule, following the successful trial period that began on August 1. This schedule includes the Town Clerk’s Office, Finance Department, Tax & Revenue Collector, Assessor’s Office, Emergency & Risk Management, the First Selectman’s Office, Town Planner, Building Official, Fire Marshal’s Office, Recreation Department, and Human and Youth Services. The Ellington Senior Center will be returning to a five-day schedule to better accommodate our seniors.

New open hours for the impacted Town Offices will be 8:00 am to 6:30 pm on Mondays, and 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Extending public hours on both ends of these four days will increase access for residents to conduct business prior to and after their own work day, and aligns with current use of Town services.

The drop boxes for the Town Clerk, Assessor and Tax Collector, located in front of the Town Hall building, continue to be available for use during off hours.

Benefits to this transition will include Town savings on HVAC and electricity costs, as well as attracting quality applicants for Town jobs. This change will also improve the work-life balance for current employees.

Public Works continues to run on its original five-day schedule; the four-day workweek does not impact Animal Control or Emergency Services. Hall Memorial Library also continues to run on an independent schedule, seven days a week (seasonally.)
