Appointment of Matthew Reed as Town Administrator
An Army Veteran and former South Windsor Chief of Police, Matthew also has a background in law, having held positions at UConn and the Capital Region Education Council, practicing in the areas of employment, municipal, and administrative law. Most recently, he has worked for the State of Connecticut, both as a staff attorney/hearing officer with the Freedom of Information Commission and as a staff attorney at the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP).
A staunch advocate for open government, he has been the recipient of the Bice Clemow Award from the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information for his leadership in support of open and accountable government; he also served on the Board of Directors of the CT Foundation for Open Government. The Town is extremely fortunate to add Matthew to its leadership team; his background and experience will prove invaluable to day-to-day operations.
“I’m thrilled that Matt will be joining Ellington as our first Town Administrator,” First Selectman Lori Spielman said. “He's a great fit, and his expertise will be a huge asset for us moving forward.”
“I am excited to return to my roots in municipal service," Matt added. "I love to work and have enjoyed all of my experiences since leaving the police department, but nothing is more satisfying than working directly with local residents, elected leaders and staff to help make the community a great place to live, work and grow. Having lived in the area for 25 years my family has enjoyed many great Ellington experiences, from day camp when the kids were little to flying lessons at the airport to enjoying the nature of Crystal Lake. Ellington is simply a great community and I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.”
Please join us in congratulating Matt in his new role as Town Administrator. Beginning Monday, August 14th, he may be contacted at (860) 870-3100 or via email at MReed@ellington-ct.gov.
