Licensing Requirements
All dogs 6 months and older must be licensed. Dog licenses are issued in the Town Clerk's Office in the Town Hall. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be shown. If the dog is spayed or neutered a Veterinarian Certificate must be shown to get the lower license rate.
 
New Resident Transfer Fee

People moving to Ellington from another Connecticut town with a current dog license can transfer the license for a fee of $1.

Unlicensed Dogs
The Animal Control officers are responsible for the enforcement of the dog licensing laws and there is a fine for failure to license of $75. All dogs must wear a collar or harness. The license tag and rabies tag must be attached to such collar or harness.

The fine for failure to vaccinate a dog or cat for Rabies is $136. If the license becomes lost, you must procure a new tag from the Town Clerk. A dog without tags will be considered unlicensed and unvaccinated and fines may be issued. Dog owners are liable for any damage caused by their dog to person, property, livestock or poultry and liable to prosecution for their dog roaming, annoying any person, vicious disposition, annoyance on any public road or excessive barking.

Licensing Payments
When licensing your dog by mail, please send your check (payable to the Town of Ellington), the certificate of rabies and the spay/neuter certificate along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of your tags.
