Employee Spotlight - Rebecca Stack

Next up is Rebecca Stack, our Human Services Director, who joined us in December of 2018 as our Elderly Outreach Social Worker. Her background in elderly and disabled housing allowed her to step in and immediately serve our community in a direct and meaningful way.

Her why - why she does what she does and why it matters:

"I feel incredibly fortunate to genuinely love coming to work each day. I value not only the work itself, but also the residents I have the privilege of serving and the colleagues I work with. We all experience seasons in life when we need someone to listen, offer support, and help us see a path forward. Being able to provide that guidance and empowerment to our residents is both an honor and deeply meaningful.”

What she finds the most meaningful in the work:

"What I find most meaningful about the work I do is the people. I have the privilege of getting to know them, hearing their stories, and hopefully being a small but positive part of their lives. Most individuals come to our office during times when they need help, kindness, understanding, direction, and simply someone to listen. Being trusted in those moments is something I never take for granted.

Those connections are what make each day special and are truly why I love what I do. Ellington is an incredibly caring and generous community. The meaningful work of Human Services would not be possible without the continued support and generosity of our residents and local businesses."

A misconception about her role:

“One of the biggest misconceptions about Human Services is that we only help people in crisis.

Human Services is not just about assistance — it’s about helping people navigate complex systems with dignity, respect, and compassion. It’s about preventing small challenges from becoming crises.

At its core, Human Services exists to strengthen the entire community."

What she's done to support and recognize for the Town’s Veterans:

"Supporting veterans is both a professional responsibility and a personal honor. My grandfathers served in World War II, and my father served in the Army during Vietnam. Because of them, I have always held a deep respect and appreciation for those who have served our country. As the Veterans Representative for the Town of Ellington, I am proud to assist veterans by providing guidance, resources, and support.

At the monthly Veterans Coffeehouse, a guest speaker is featured, and refreshments are generously donated by LuAnn’s Café & Bakery. The Coffeehouse provides a welcoming space for veterans to connect, share stories, and access helpful information and resources.

In 2025, we introduced the Veteran Banner Program, 'Ellington Veterans – A Salute in Banners.' In collaboration with the Patriotic Committee, veterans may be sponsored or apply for a banner to be proudly displayed throughout town from Memorial Day through Veterans Day. This meaningful initiative offers our community a special way to recognize and honor our local heroes."

Thank you for all you do for Ellington 💙
