Ellington's Trash and Recycling

Ellington's Trash and Recycling program is dedicated to providing efficient and sustainable waste management services. We offer comprehensive trash and recycling programs, including curbside service, a Recycling Center, a Brush Dump, and hazardous waste disposal options. Ellington is responsible for the collection and distribution of sanitary effluent generated by residents and facilities within the two sanitary districts. A two-district system comprised of 7 pump stations, 57 miles of piping and 108 residential grinder pumps is maintained by three field team members and administrator and an administrative assistant.  The authority works to maintain and improve sewer systems, plan for future growth, and address any issues related to water pollution control. The WPCA also manages sewer assessments, user fees, and policies regarding sewer connections for new developments both commercial and residential.

Responsibilities:

• Wastewater Collection: Maintenance, inspection and repair of low-pressure and gravity sanitary sewer mainlines. This ranges from Closed Circuit Television Inspections to regular line flushing to Excavation & repair of line deficiencies.
• Wastewater Distribution: After collection, the sanitary effluent is pumped to the Vernon or Stafford treatment facilities, depending on the district. To do this Ellington owns and maintains seven (7) pump stations located strategically to handle flows from all over town. These stations require regular maintenance and repair which is a large focus of the teams time.

• Landscape Maintenance: We are responsible for the upkeep of numerous public gardens, parks, green spaces, and over 50 acres of athletic fields. Our work includes routine mowing, pruning, and landscaping to keep these areas in top condition year-round.

• Tree Care: Our team focuses on the health and safety of Ellington’s trees, with regular inspections, skilled pruning, and effective disease management to maintain a healthy urban forest.

• Sports Fields Maintenance: We ensure that each of our 8 baseball fields, 5 softball fields, 7 lacrosse fields, 13 soccer fields, and 3 football fields are meticulously maintained, providing safe and high-quality playing surfaces for sports enthusiasts and teams.

• Public Facilities Upkeep: Our team manages Sandy Beach and other recreational facilities, ensuring they are clean and ready for public enjoyment.

• Seasonal Decorations: We creatively decorate public spaces with seasonal themes to celebrate and enhance the community’s festive spirit.
