This federally funded program helps low to moderate income residents with heating costs during the winter months. This assistance is only for your heat source. Income for the whole household (whomever is residing in the home) is counted. Applications are done by appointment only. A list of what is needed to be provided will be mailed to you at the time you make your appointment. Appointments begin in September for deliverable fuel heated households, and November for utility heated households and for those whose heat is included in their rent. Please contact this office for information or to schedule an appointment. 860-870-3128
Persons who apply for (and are eligible for) Energy Assistance and heat with electric or natural gas can be eligible for the Eversource Matching Payment Program. This program provides a dollar to dollar match to your monthly payment as well as to your Energy Assistance award to eliminate or reduce any outstanding balance. Enrollment in this program will be done at the time of your Energy Assistance appointment. You must complete your energy application and make all required payments in order to be matched. You also must apply for and be granted Energy Assistance every year to continue to participate in the program.
Human Services can provide a one time fuel delivery (up to 100 gallons or maximum of $500) for eligible households during the winter heating season. You must have exhausted your Energy Assistance benefits, or have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from being eligible.
UTILITY SHUT OFFS
Residents who are facing a shut off for their utilities may be eligible for income based forgiveness programs or other arrangements. Eversource offers NewStart, a program to help low income individuals and families who have a delinquent balance and are in jeopardy of having their service terminated. A monthly budget arrangement is made, and as long as the customer makes that payment every month, the past due amount is reduced over time. Please call us for more information or to enroll on NewStart. You may also be eligible for assistance through our fuel bank to avoid shut offs or to enroll on a payment arrangement.
*There are also specific programs that are available for persons who were directly affected by COVID-19. Please call us for more information. 860-870-3128
