Personnel Policies
Personnel Rules and Regulations are prepared by the Board of Selectmen, pursuant to Chapter XI, Section 1104 of the Town of Ellington Town Charter. The contents of this handbook are the personnel policies and rules of the Town of Ellington and are applicable to all employees, provided not in direct conflict with any collective bargaining agreements or individual contracts. Although some employees may not be eligible for the benefits set forth in these policies, they will be expected to comply with the Town's rules and regulations regarding conduct while performing services for the Town. CT Paid Sick Leave Law
CT PAID SICK LEAVE LAW: Effective January 1, 2025, Connecticut’s revised paid sick leave law went into effect. The law applies to all employees with the exception of “Seasonal” employees (defined as those who work 120 days or less in a year). Below is a notice that is required by statute to be provided to all covered employees.
The revised statute does not substantively impact current sick leave benefits. However, some requirements contained in our personnel rules, or your union contract are superseded by the statute for the first 40 hours of sick time used each year. For example, if you take a sick day, the town cannot require you to provide a note or any explanation for the use of sick time. If there is a requirement that you notify your supervisor that you are sick a certain amount of time before your shift, that rule cannot be enforced for your first 40 hours of sick time used.
Keeping that information in mind, please know that in order for the town to ensure the continuity of services and ensure positions are properly staffed each day, we encourage employees to continue to provide some advance notice to supervisors that you are ill and won’t be present at work.
Please read the notice for the specifics of this revised statute. Visit this LINK for more complete information on Connecticut’s revised paid sick leave law. Feel free to contact Matt Reed, Town Administrator, your supervisor or the HR Coordinator, Lou Ann, with any questions.
NOTICE: Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law effective 1.1.2025 (distributed to all employees 12.16.2024)
