Emergency Services

POLICE, FIRE, MEDICAL
Police, fire and emergency medical services are provided to the residents of Ellington by four departments. 

POLICE
The town contracts with the State of Connecticut for services of four resident state troopers and one state police sergeant.  They provide full time police services seven days a week.  Additionally, Ellington employs about 12 part time police officers and marine constables.  Click the link information on the police department.

FIRE
Fire protection is provided through contracts with the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., and the Crystal Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.  Both of these departments are staffed by volunteer fire chiefs and volunteer firefighters from the Ellington community.  The town does not currently employ any paid fire personnel.

EMS AND AMBULANCE SERVICE
Finally, emergency medical services and ambulance service are provided through a contract with Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc.  The Ambulance Corp is staffed by a combination of town-paid and volunteer emergency medical responders (EMR), and emergency medical technicians (EMTs).  Both fire department and volunteer ambulance personnel serve as first responders to medical emergencies, however ambulance transportation is provided by the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance. 

MUTUAL AID
Ellington actively participates in a regional mutual aid compact.  As a result, both Ellington ambulance and fire department personnel are frequently called upon to respond to surrounding communities to provide assistance whenever additional manpower is needed or if the emergency service in that community is committed on another call for service.  Conversely, when Ellington is in need of assistance, units from surrounding towns have agreed to respond here.
